LAQUINCY RIDEAU
LaQuincy Rideau is a 29-year-old American guard and fan favourite returning to Cheshire Phoenix, where he made a major impact during the 2023/24 British Basketball League season.
A Florida native and University of South Florida alumnus, Rideau forged his professional path in Luxembourg and Slovenia before arriving in the UK and immediately becoming the engine of Cheshire’s high-powered offence.
In 2023/24 he led the BBL in both assists (7.0 per game) and steals (2.6 per game), becoming just the fifth player in league history to top both categories in the same season, and earned selection to the All-Defensive Team. He also captured the BBL Trophy and was named tournament MVP after a 25-point performance in the final against the London Lions, adding multiple Player of the Month awards across the campaign.
Renowned as an elite facilitator, a lockdown defender and the difference maker, Rideau helped Cheshire to a second-place finish—the club’s best in a decade—and into the playoff semi-finals. Although he narrowly missed an All-League selection by two votes, his complete two-way impact was widely recognised across the league.
Returning to reunite with Skyler White and Coach Ben Thomas at Ellesmere Port Sports Village, Rideau is expected to be the backbone of the Phoenix offence once again. As he put it: “I’m back in Cheshire and locked in. I’m ready to work and pick up right where I left off—let’s get it."
